Aamir Khan’s Junaid Khan is gearing up for the release of his first theatrical film, Loveyapa, alongside Boney Kapoor-Sridevi’s daughter Khushi Kapoor. On Friday, the makers organised a grand trailer launch event in Mumbai, which was also attended by Aamir Khan, who was an “absent father” to his kids during their childhood. At the event, the actor said he was proud of his son and the way he has been conducting himself. Junaid is the son of Aamir and his first wife Reena.
At the event, an overwhelmed Aamir Khan shared, “As a father, I have been quite absent. I used to be in my own world, while my kids navigated their childhood on their own.” He added, “Today, I am extremely proud for how Junaid chose a career path for himself on his own terms. I have been in the industry since 1988. It has been over 36 years. Now that my son has also stepped into the same industry, it is a very emotional moment for me. I really wish him well.”
Aamir Khan further shared how he and his first wife tried to pass on the learnings his mother taught him when he was a kid. A joyful Aamir Khan said, “I am very proud and happy with the way he is conducting himself. Reena and I, we passed on the same discipline to Junaid and Ira, that was given to me by my mother.”

Before praising his son, Aamir also shared some kind words for Khushi, who too will mark her big screen debut after her Netflix film The Archies. He said, “Sri must be proud of you. I really wish she was here to see you today.”
At the same event, the actor revealed that he gave up smoking for his son. He said, “I’m very happy to say that I’ve quit this bad habit. And whoever is watching or listening, I want to tell them too to please quit it. It’s not a good habit. I felt I wanted to quit, my son’s career is starting too. I made a resolve in my heart. I’m quitting, whether it (Junaid’s next film) works or not, I’m doing this independent of that. Hope it does something somewhere in the universe. You guys pray and wish for that, too.”
Loveyapa, directed by Advait Chandan, is all set to hit the theatres on February 7.
