Being a bodyguard to some of Bollywood’s biggest stars may seem like a lucrative job, but the reality is far from it. Yusuf Ibrahim, who has provided security to several A-listers, including Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Ananya Panday, has lifted the lid on the salaries of celebrity bodyguards.
According to Yusuf, most bodyguards are paid by the star who hires them, the producer of the film they are working on, and even event organisers who are paying for the event. This is the case for bodyguards of top stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. However, when it comes to their salaries, the figures are not as astronomical as one might expect. “How much do you think their salaries are? It would be anything around Rs 25,000 to Rs 1 lakh probably,” Yusuf revealed in a conversation with Siddharth Kannan. “Then it depends on how much increment you get. This is a monthly salary, not daily wages. Nobody pays too much. Tomorrow if I say that I was paid Rs 1 lakh per day, then I can’t justify that. Nobody is going to give me that. There are so many others waiting to do this job,” he said.
When asked to disclose the exact salaries of celebrity bodyguards, Yusuf remained tight-lipped. “I can’t say, it depends on how long you have been with the star, how much increment you have got through the years… The figures that you are saying are false.”
However, Yusuf did reveal that stars do take care of their bodyguards’ well-being. “A star pays you a decent amount that you can comfortably run your house. They take care of their children’s school fees, their medical expenses. At least the people I have worked with, they tell us to let them know when we need medical help and pay our kids’ fees.”
