Aamir Khan recently revealed that after many years of smoking, he has finally quit this bad habit. At the trailer launch of his son Junaid Khan’s upcoming film Loveyapa in Mumbai on Friday, he said that he had been hoping to quit smoking for a long time and now, he made a vow as his son’s career is on the verge of taking off. Aamir had previously revealed that he quit drinking, and said that he hoped to quit smoking as well.
He said, “I have given up smoking. Smoking is something I love very much and it’s something I enjoy. Kya bolun, sach baat hai yeh, jhooth toh bol nahi sakta. Itne saalo se main cigarette pee raha that, ab pipe peeta hu (what can I say, it’s the truth, I can’t lie. I’ve been smoking cigarettes for years, now I smoked a pipe). Tobacco is something I enjoy. It’s not good for health. Kisi ko nahi karna chahiye (No one should do it).”
Aamir further added, “Mujhe badi khushi hai ye kehte hue ki maine ye buri aadat chhod di hai, aur main jo saare sun rahe hain, dekh rahe hain, main unse bhi kahunga ki please ye chhodiye. Ye achhi aadat nahi hai. Ye nahi karna chahiye. Aur mere liye ye wajah bhi thi, mere liye achchi timing bhi thi. Mujhe lagta tha mujhe chhodna bhi hai, mere bete ka career shuru ho raha hai. Maine apne dil mein ek mannat maangi. Main chhod raha hu, chahe chale ya na chale, main apni taraf se ek cheez kar raha hu. (I’m very happy to say that I’ve quit this bad habit. And whoever is watching or listening, I want to tell them too to please quit it. It’s not a good habit. I felt I wanted to quit, my son’s career is starting too. I made a pledge in my heart. I’m quitting, whether it (Loveyapa) works or not, I’m doing this independent of that). As a father, I wanted to sacrifice. Aur kahin universe mein jake uska kuchh ho. Aap log prarthana kariye, dua kariye. (Hope it does something somewhere in the universe. You guys pray and wish for that, too).”

At the event, Aamir also got emotional talking about Khushi Kapoor’s resemblance to her mother and late actor Sridevi in Loveyapa. He said, “Main Sridevi ji ka sabse badaa fan raha hu. Aap logon ko yeh pata hoga, shuru se I’ve always spoken about Sri aur mera yeh sapna tha ke ek din Sri ke saath kaam karne ka mauka mujhe mile (I have been the biggest fan of Sridevi. I have always spoken about mine and her dream to work together). So, it’s Khushi’s film and it’s an important moment for me. When I saw the film, I felt I’m watching Sri again.”
Junaid Khan made his acting debut with the Netflix film Maharaj in 2024. Khushi made her debut in Zoya Akhtar’s much hyped 2023 film The Archies.
