An eight-year-old girl collapsed and died within minutes due to suspected cardiac arrest on Friday morning at a private school in Ahmedabad. Police are probing the incident to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Gargi Tushar Ranpara, a Class 3 student, arrived at Zebar School for Children in Thaltej as usual and climbed stairs to reach her classroom on the first floor.
However, within minutes, CCTV footage from the school showed her feeling uneasy following which she sat on a chair in the corridor.
“Within moments, she collapsed. Our teachers immediately administered CPR and rushed her to the nearest hospital,” the school stated in an official statement.
School authorities stated that she was alive and alright when she arrived at the nearby Zydus Hospital. “Despite their efforts, the doctors informed us that she suffered a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The hospital authorities informed the police and they have already started their investigation. Senior police officials visited the school campus,” school’s executive director Manan Choksi told The Indian Express.
The Bodakdev police made a station diary entry and are looking into the sudden death of the child. PI Apurva Patel remained unavailable for comment.
A Bodakdev resident said, Gargi’s parents were in Mumbai at the time of the incident. Her father works in Mumbai and her mother had gone to visit him, while she was with her grandparents on Friday.
In its statement, the school condoled the death and added that it was extending all necessary support to her family and classmates to cope with this tragic event.
