A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed him a ceremonial chadar to be offered on his behalf at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah on the Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, Union Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju Friday visited the shrine of Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia in Delhi.

Speaking to reporters, Rijiju said, “I bring the chadar that PM Modi has handed over to me for Ajmer Sharif Dargah. Going via Nizamuddin Dargah is good and we came here with the same feeling. We all prayed and sought blessings. We are going there with PM Modi’s message of brotherhood and for peace in the country… Tomorrow at 11 am, we will offer the chadar at Ajmer Sharif.”

Asked by reporters about AAP’s allegations that BJP leaders were visiting the dargah ahead of the Delhi elections, Rijiju said, “We do not indulge in such things. We are praying and working for the future of the country.”

BJP minority wing president Jamal Siddiqui, who visited the shrine Bakhtiar Kaki in Mehrauli, with a chadar sent by the PM, said Rijiju’s visit to Nizamuddin Dargah was in line with tradition. “Whoever goes to Ajmer, they first visit Nizamuddin, then Mehrauli and Ajmer,” Siddiqui said.
