Around 60 per cent out of 10,000 acres of land to be acquired in the course of next six months across Maharashtra for industrial purposes will be from Vidarbha and Marathwada alone, officials said.
On January 8, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had held a review of a 100-day plan for the state’s Industries department.
During the meeting it was decided that the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will acquire 10,000 acres of additional land across the state for industrial purposes.
“Out of this, 3,000 acres will be from Nagpur division (Vidarbha region) while 3,000 acres will be from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division (Marathwada region). Remaining 4,000 acres of land will be acquired from the rest of Maharashtra,” an official from the Industries department said. A high-power committee to finalise the process will meet on Monday.
“As per the primary discussion, the process of issuing notifications will be held in the first three months and the acquisition will be completed in next three months,” the official said. The government has set a target to allot these land parcels to businesses and industrial players within the next one year.
Fadnavis hails from Nagpur and has been a vocal supporter of increasing industries in Vidarbha. At the time of its construction, the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway was also showcased as a gamechanger for the businesses in Vidarbha and Marathwada as it will cut down the travel time to Mumbai considerably.
During his speech at the recently held winter session of the state legislature, Fadnavis had mentioned about the growing industrial and business opportunities in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the headquarter of Marathwada region. From ambitious Wainganga-Nalganga river linking project which will create irrigation for around 10 lakh acre land in Vidarbha and Marathwada to a water supply scheme for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the state government is focused on these regions, which are comparatively under developed than the rest of the state.
As of now, the MIDC has 3,500 acres of land across the state. In the meeting, Fadnavis directed to complete the process of distribution of this available land within next 100 days.
“We have been told to work aggressively and bring the maximum amount of investment in the state by making the ‘ease of doing business’ process as industry-friendly as possible,” the official said.
