YouTube, the world’s leading video streaming platform, offers an endless array of content that no individual could ever consume in a lifetime. From educational tutorials and meme reviews to documentaries, the Google-owned platform hosts a mix of short and long-form videos, ranging from a minute to several hours in length.

While Google Gemini can effortlessly summarize most YouTube videos, the process involves copying the video URL and pasting it into Gemini to generate a summary. But did you know there’s a clever trick to summarize or ask questions about a YouTube video without ever leaving the app? Here’s how it works.

1. Open YouTube and play the video you want Gemini to summarise or ask questions about.

2. Now, trigger Gemini by either long pressing the power button.

3. Just above the Gemini overlay, tap on the ‘Ask about this video’ button and Gemini will automatically copy the URL of the YouTube video you are watching.

4. Now, you can ask Gemini to summarise the video by simply typing “Summarise this video” in the text field and even ask questions about it.

As opposed to the previous method, which required users to copy the YouTube video URL and paste it in Gemini, this way is comparatively faster as it eliminates the additional steps and lets users ask questions or get a summary without switching apps.

Before you use the feature, just make sure that Gemini’s YouTube extension is enabled. Another thing to note here is that you need to set Gemini as your default assistant.

The aforementioned feature is really handy if you don’t have time to watch the complete video and want to get a just and is particularly useful if you often watch long-form content like documentaries or podcasts, which are usually more than an hour long.
